The fifth installment of the Call of Duty series, might not take place in yet another rehashed Western European front! This news came from an announcement by Activision. Publishing CEO for Activision, Mike Griffith, had this to say.
We'll bring the intensity of the recent Call of Duty: Modern Warfare title to a new military theater to engage our significantly larger user base which nearly doubled last year as new users came into the franchise.
Call of Duty 5 is slated for a late 2008 release on the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PS2, PC, and Nintendo DS systems.

Also of note, the engine that powered Call of Duty 4 is being put to good use in a new James Bond game, set to be released this Fall alongside the new Bond film.

interesting news. I wonder what their new "military theatre" will be.

I hope it's something truly new and not just a different period of World War 2, or another "fictional" mid-east war.

It's probably still within WWII. They probably would've worded it differently if it were taking place outside of that era. A different theater could be the Pacific theater, for an example.

Yeah I do think it will be just a different "theatre" within ww2, but I can hope :)

Vietnam is cool (battlefield: vietnam, not the horrible war), I love the music from that era too, but there's just too many trees, it doesn't make for that awesome gameplay.

It probably will be the Pacific like you say, if all of 1-3 (never bothered with them) were set within the European conflict, and 5 will supposedly be a different one than previously covered.

Yeah, "fictional."

I hope it's a another war that takes place in a Modern Combat kind of scenario.

They obviously have something golden on their hands... I couldn't see why they would turn away from it.

The call of duty engine is just a heavily modified quake III engine.

The fastest growing sectors are typically South Korea and China, so it's really not that difficult to guess the region it's moving to. I'd hate to see them return to WWII though... CoD4 was a good move for the franchise.
