Valve - "We're Not PS3 Developers"
Zips @ 4:29 pm pdt on 5/5/08 - interviews
Valve's Doug Lombardi recently gave a quick comment to CVG about why Left 4 Dead is only slated for the PC and Xbox 360 platforms.
We're not PS3 developers - we're doing PC and 360 like with Orange Box. EA came to us and said 'Wow, Orange box was an incredible project, can we do a PS3 version?'

If you mention a new Half-Life, people want to make as many versions of it as possible. If Left 4 Dead is big, then we may see a PS3 version later, or if and when we do a sequel, people may be more interested in that.

We're only 150 people, so there's only so many things we can do. But it's one of those things with partners, wanting to take on that investment and risk. I think until L4D is proven, you'll probably just see what we make in that franchise.
There you have it PS3 owners. If you want your own version of Left 4 Dead to call your own, you might want to start begging EA or another development studio to offer their services to Valve!

I think valve should just put out a press release and simply just say. "We hate the PS3"

I personally don't care about the ps3 either because I have a PC and a xbox360 and I can barely keep those up to date with games and hardware/add-ons.

Don't develop for PS3. It would just take them even longer for games to come out. I can't play FPS on PS3 anyways. Hahaha.

Although there may or may not be any relevance, I sense a little fanboyism from this websites constant PS3 bashing. Halo kiddies I suppose.

P.S- By PS3 bashing I mean the bold article title 'So and so says "PS3 SUCKS LOL." There you have it PS3 owners j00 are ghey.'

<3 Orange box on my 360

Just wish they'd patch TF2 as frequently as they do on the PC.

I like console games and PC games and I don't see a reason to remove one market when both are fine.

That said, developers can go on any platform (or avoid any platform) they want.

Not exactly surprising. Porting a game from PC to 360 is pretty easy, but porting to PS3 requires a massive overhaul of the whole engine. Valve is a fairly small company.

Why would they spend millions upon millions of dollars in research and development to overhaul their fantastic engine just so they could sell a few hundred thousand copies on the console with the smallest installed base?

Why? Does it somehow hurt you that the Orange Box also runs on Xbox?
