ea to charge for bad company weapons?
EA to Charge for Bad Company Weapons?
Zips @ 11:29 am pdt on 3/21/08 - multi-platform fps
I know how you guys absolutely LOVE micro-transactions around these parts. With tha tin mind, I figured I'd be a kind soul and bring you news that EA might charge for a number of weapons in Bad Company.
We've heard about it via several sources already, including a reader, and it appears that the Battlefield: Bad Company Beta lists individual weapons for sale via the XBLM. A total of ten weapons are locked that have text reading "Available for purchase on Xbox Live Marketplace" next to them. The details of this are a bit shaky as of now however, as of those ten weapons, five weapons are listed as simply available for purchase, and five are listed as available in gold edition or for purchase.
Now keep in mind that this can change and for now it's only going to be considered a rumor. But I know that won't stop you guys from unleashing the hounds!

EA is the first company to bring the corruption of American capitalism to video games. Yay! Now how heavy your wallet is determines how much you pwn!

I boycotted Battlefield 2120 or whatever because of ads. Now I have to boycot this because of micro transactions. I still kinda wanna play BF2, though, but I don't want to support this company any more than I have to. =/

This would be EA's decision to make them unlockable only through XBLM.

I do my best to boycott EA games as much as possible. But when they have a habit of spotting a potential million dollar game and buying up the developers (BF1942, Crysis, GTAIV etc) then often you don't have much of a choice but to feed the beast with cash.

I've had more disappointing support from EA than any other publisher in the 30 year history of my videogaming. Who can forget such debacles as the BF2 patches, BF2142 patches, Crysis patches, paid-for downloads costing more to download again etc.

Unfortunately they have a nice fat sticky finger in the console market too, and as the average console owner has as much intelligence as it takes to say "Oh look, a game based on <current blockbuster film> , it must be good!" then EA will continue to rule the universe with pockets full of dough :(

The only time I've seen micro payments that actually make sense is in Motorstorm for the PS3. You can choose to buy a new car/truck/bike package, but it has the same stats as all the other vehicles in the same class. So all you're gaining is jealous looks from the other drivers 8)

And this is why EA poaches other companies.

Imagine if EA bought a console out... I'd be standing on the EA hate boat, watching them sink and laughing at how much money they've wasted.

Remember, just a rumor, nothing confirmed.
