That's right, there is a new update for Counter-Strike and Condition Zero. Can you believe it? Can you?! You're going to absolutely love the last bulleted point in the list of changes here (Assuming you are one of those who never, ever read the headlines).- Fixed add current server button layout in the serverbrowser
- Don't allow the '&' character in usernames
- Prevented empty chat spam
- Fix for upscaling decals in software renderer
- Duplicated the in-game advertisements from Counter-Strike in Counter-Strike: Condition Zero

Haha. So it finally came. Certainly interesting. I personally don't own CZ but I'm quite curious how they position them ads. |

Thats crap, the only reason I play CZ is so I don't see the ads... |

The ads will certainly hit source. To be honest, like ads on the web, I just tune them out, I hardly notice them anymore. However for the sake of argument, I can understand the defense of "I already paid for it once, I didn't pay to see advertisements." |

who plays CZ anyway? lol...I own it, but I never played it. The only reason I have it is from the silver package of HL2. |

I would've bought it eventually to play single player, maybe. Now I never will. |

I'm not sure I understand their reasoning here. For 1.6 the game was essentially free. (except for the dopes that bought CS in a box) It KIND OF made sense to have ads. (also, tap your largest user base to get them to raise new product awareness) However, everyone who has CZ bought CZ. It doesn't even cost VALVe much to maintain it. Now they've eliminated escape from ads for people that preferred the gldsrc versions of CS. On the other hand, it doesn't really ruin immersion. The old versions of CS aren't about that anymore. Many maps had ads in them already before the updates. I hope they use this extra revenue to improve CSS. (which is reportedly going to happen, so yay) |

@8 Like Valve are in need of money... It's going to detract from game play if they stick out like a sore thumb, and ruin competitive matches. And they are not going to get much revenue from it anyway. Think of the way websites get revenue in ads, not per visitors to that site but by clicks on the ad. So if its in game how will the advertiser know that the players even looked at the ad, and with that argument why should they pay valve much money for displaying their ad. Use the money to improve CSS, hmm so what money did they use to improve steam with? I don't see any ads there. /rantFinished. |

Personally, I don't mind the ads in the game. Other games have had them, I don't see why it's such a big deal. I am glad, however, that Valve updated more than just the ads. The fact that they fixed minor bugs (like the ampersands making names smaller on the scoreboard), and the empty chat bug is good. Maybe MAYBE Valve is starting to show an interest in 1.6 again. And realizing that a lot of people still love it. I know it's extremely wishful thinking, but maybe they'll start updating 1.6 again. Fix a few other things, etc. |

I'll bet you this...I'll bet your email gets a "...we have no plans at this time to put ads in Source." kind of response. Doesn't bother me, as long as ads are in any of the games they won't be getting any of my pretty pennies. How people keep giving them money is an absolute mystery to me, but people are chimps like that I guess, and they know it. |

This makes ZERO sense. They could use the excuse that CS was free therefore adverts were fine, however when I bought Condition Zero I did not agree to pay towards adverts. They should make CZ free and refund me. |

Faggot Valve. They are the perfectly flawed game company. They make great games, and don't rip you off. But what do they go and do? Why, throw some non-subtle ads into their most popular games. Why? Fuck knows, surely they aren't using much more bandwidth than any of their other, newer titles. |

So ends me playing CS. I know plenty of others say that, but sadly my hatred of in-game advertisement is so strong that I've refused to play 1.6 since the ads were implemented. CZ was my refuge until now, and even this has been taken from me. From the beginning I haven't enjoyed playing CS:S, so there no longer is a legit version of CS that I enjoy. I guess I'll pick up a hacked version of 1.6 for LANs, but that's it now... farewell to a game I've loved for 7 long years. |

At least I kinda enjoy CS:S so I still have a refuge. Hopefully new maps like that museum one will continue to come out before the ads come in. |

If you want to help out you can make yourself a little bind to a key that says something like "ADMINS DOWNLOAD ADTHEMES.AMXX TO COVER UP IN GAME ADS!" in chat whenever you play on a server. I've been using the plugin and you don't even know the ads are there. They get covered completely. Still doesn't block the ones in the scoreboard or the spectate view but it wipes out the ones on the map walls where they are the most annoying. The plugin works great and you can even add new coordinates to block new ads when (if) valve decides to put them in a new position on the maps. By spamming the message 3 or 4 times I've even gotten a few admins of some servers to get the plugin and use it. Its a slow process but its proving to be a very good start to fighting back. appended @ 4:43 pm pst on 1/15/08 Oh nearly forgot http://forums.alliedmods.net/showthread.php?p=456368 Get the plugin from there |
