Thanks to a dashcalhoun post in our forums, a local download mirror to tk_chscommons_b1 is now here. Feel like giving it a spin? Then click away!

Through no fault of the map creator, this map is only in BETA form and may never leave this state. However, custom textures and brush work are already evident in this early build and is worth at least a look. I've snapped a few screens that can be seen below. Feel free to take a look at them while you download the map.

I played de_highschool constantly a couple years ago, so hopefully we can get a pub going with this loaded to see how the two compare in terms of gameplay. To think that the result of the FBISD's overreaction (and subsequent attempts to squelch freedom of speech) is for this map to gain widespread attention, with potentially thousands of gamers shooting each other in the virtual halls of a highschool they previously didn't even know existed. Now that is ironic.

comment #7 Thortok2000 11:02 am pdt - 5/5/07	I'm not sure responding to the ads in 1.6 by giving valve more money (IE, buying CZ) is really the best way to respond. I might get CZ eventually anyway, though. I'm going to wait and see if ads are going to get added to it and/or any other games AFTER people buy them BEFORE I buy CZ.

comment #9 2point4 12:38 pm pdt - 5/5/07	Buying CZ is not responding to the ads. CZ is not advertised in CS. Also, there was a de_highschool? The creator of that map should be tortured and hanged...:rolleyes: Why didn't that map ever get any attention? The creator of a map called de_highschool must be evil...:rolleyes: The map isn't bad. I'm gonna talk to someone I know that does mapping and see if they can fix some of the issues with it. There is a CT spawn point that you get stuck at, there are a lot of FPS drops in certain areas of the courtyard that can be fixed with a little compiling and a few other things, but this map should get rotation on our server in no time. I'm sure it's already on a few of them. After running around that map a little bit, I still don't feel like hurting any high-schoolers. I'm actually having fun shooting out all the windows in the courtyard. There's a lot of them. :)

comment #11 dashcalhoun 5:21 pm pdt - 5/5/07	Regarding the CT spawn point where you get stuck, if you crouch and walk away from the spawn point, you can move out of it. Not sure why it is.

I get 95-100 FPS constant on all maps even with a smoke 1-2 smokes, but when I go into the courtyard, mine drops to 40-60 FPS. I tried looking at different stuff to see what it was, but I couldn't figure it out.

Not sure why it is. Old CS map quirk - if the spawn boxes touch the floor, you get stuck when you start. Usual fix is to move them one block from the floor.

You could be the 'CS expert' to be counterpoint to Jack Thompson. =P
