I want more hostage rescue maps!
» Improved closed shield behavior
» Improved shield hitbox to be more accurate
Those should please some people.
» HE grenades no longer damage players through walls and other obstacles
» HE grenade damage and radius increased by 50% (to account for new behavior)
Very interesting, indeed.

Edit: I was wondering, was the CZ bot AI ever updated to account for the hostage AI?

i.e.) Will CT bots "use" hostages from a distance, and will T bots send stray hostages back to their positions at gunpoint?

And to any CSN staffers: you may want to change the second Counter-Strike: Condition Zero to Counter-Strike: Condition Zero Deleted Scenes, just to ease the understanding.

If nothing else, I'm sure these fixes will find their way to CS 1.6 as well.

Of course the one night I have to stay late at work and update 100 servers with Windows Critical Updates, this comes out.. =*(

And now the CS Source Beta testing is going to probably begin right when Doom 3 comes out. I'm gonna have to take a vacation I think

after this update, it seems to me that CZ is "maturing" and becoming more finely developed.

And for all you non-CZ owners, c'mon and go buy it already!

hint: if you buy the imported version, just use it's serial #, d/l the CZ cache via steam, and you have the full english version of CZ for the imported price! (which is usually about 15 bucks)

the nade changes are horrible.
so now unless the nade lands in your lap you basically dont get damaged. a big part of CS is throwing a nade right next to a wall which an enemy is by and its like the wall isnt there.

no, now it does more damage and you have to do what it was intended to be used as; bouncing off the walls and/or ceiling.

Smurf I have 1 Q: if you hate CS (from what I have concluded from your posts) then why are you a CSNationalist or even care to come to this site? Rant about your hate with other people that hate the game as well, or try and grow up and treat what happens here with an attitude more mature than a 7-year old's.

I'm thinking it's much sounder fiscal practice to give more support to customers that have recently paid for new product. I know you're already geared up to say "We paid for Half-Life!, we deserve support too!". We paid, at most, $50 for Half-Life, and that was around five years ago. The standard CS community has already recieved millions of dollars worth of updated content, patching, and support; while the CZ purchasers have yet to see such support. I don't think its totally wrong to think that Valve, a corporation, should try to make a buck or two from time to time.

And besides, CZ is a good game, updates are good.

Pay attention, son.

Just under 6000 people were playing CZ at that moment. I think it's reasonable to say that half to two-thirds of the players of any game/mod are offline at any given moment, so we're talking at least 12,000 to 18,000 people. That's enough to warrant updates, thank you very much.

Add to that the fact that CZ users are actually recently paying customers and I'd say Valve has good reason to keep us happy.
Urban Terror wrote..

Obviously nothing has been announced, but considering past history I'd say that anything that doesn't constitute a "new feature" will make its way into regular CS.

bought it, disliked it, gave it back, bough ut2k4 with the money i got back.

I prefer original CS, because honestly i didn't really feel like playing cs with new textures. Maybe the only good thing i found about it was the hostages seemed a bit smarter. Other than that, it felt exactly the same. Personally i don't think it's worth the money (unless you have an inf amount of money) to be buying CS:Z, that game might be better for newbies because it seemed more friendly. Also the single player sucked. I beat it easily on its hardest level. Oddly the "secret missions" is better than the game itself i personaly think. Now i cant wait to see CS:S thats something to look forward to.

So if anyone wants to play a game with new textures and weapon models but is almost exactly the same as the original except it has a single player mode then get it. Otherwise wait a few more months hopefully HL2 will be released and play CS:S

Also, i don't think Valve will update CS 1.6 ever. maybe a few bug fixes, what they're going to try and do is force the CS players into buying CS:Z so they can get all these "nifty" features 1.6 doesn't support.
If i was valve, thats exactly what i would be doing.

ive seen more updates that alot of people since i have been with CS since beta1, and trust me these updates are nothing in comparisant,

beta1 - beta11 then retail -1.6, now then how many updates, because you have all the points in there e.g. beta 1.1, now put into context CZ is now at 1.3 or .4, who needs the most updates and deserves them, ill give you a couple of minutes

When did you play it?
There are no significant gameplay changes to make the game more "newbie," as you put it. It's the same CS, only it looks alot nicer and has a lot of extra bells and whistles.

I bought it when it came out. The game felt to me like it was leaning too much to the newbies on CS to train them. I don't think a Pro at cs would enjoy this game as much as a newbie would because a newbie has a challenge while the pro has experienced stuff like that all the time.

Multiplayer though is almost exactly the same as cs 1.6.

and is that so wrong? It's not like every single person on the face of the earth knows or even heard about CS? The way I see it, Valve had made a good move by making CS:CZ more newbie friendly. CZ is overall... definitely more appealing to one's eyes compared to CS 1.6 (especially seeing how now-a-days almost all the people seem to only care about how good the graphics are in games..... look how many people bashed HL2 and CS:S for having a slightly worse look than let's say.. Doom 3.. for christ's sake...) Maybe by making the game slightly better looking Valve was able to introduce such an old game like CS to those who never tried CS experince before. CS is a complete pile of dung to those who had never seen CS before in terms of how it looks. A friend of mine.. he just got into gaming (sad.. he shouldn't have made what could be the biggest mistake of his life!!). He plays games like UT2k4 and Raven Shield... all of those games with incredible graphics. When I introduced him to CS.. he laughed his ass off seeing how old and ugly it looked. It's true. CS is definitely one of the ugliest games in the market (well compared to all those recently released games anyway...). Only thing that made him play CS was it's powerful addictiveness.. :P (it's true!! look at me!) However, he seemed to accept CS:CZ better for its slightly better overall looks (he though I should have introduced him the CZ first lol. One thing I like about CZ's tutoring system.. I don't have to yell out what the hell my newbie friend is suppose to do while playing... :D Now he plays CZ just because of its better looks with the same oldl CS 1.6 gameplay). That's why I see CZ as just the good old CS 1.6 in a better suit to meet the standards of games that the gamers now expect to see. Maybe.. for those new people to quickly get into the game... newbie friendly feature such as the tutoring system is not such a bad idea.

A sidenote to the grenades:

I was just playing cs_militia_cz on a single-player mission, threw a grenade from the front yard to the garage, and still got the "You have injured a hostage" message, even though the hostage was on the inside of the garage.

Day of Defeat
1851 servers, 5192 players

Team Fortress Classic
838 servers, 2528 players

Counter-Strike: Condition Zero

Why does it only show 1956 players?

Steam brower shows 311 servers (but I bet alot have to restart to get the update)
