I.) Defense

As the defensive team, the terrorists have an easy job, especially if they set up defense in different spots of the map every other round. This way, your opponent will not know where you are defending at until you surprise them. Never come out of your defensive position unless you leave with your team, it's easy to get killed by two counter-terrorists when you are alone, even when they have only pistols. Since the counter-terrorist pistol is much stronger than the terrorist pistol, it is recommended that you strafe a lot while defending in narrow hallways. This way they will not an easy one shot kill on your head.

  • Eliminate enemy surroundings; do not let them surround you or your team.
  • Keep the fighting areas in narrow areas, so the majority of your shots hit your opponent and not the walls around them.
  • Do not allow the enemy to get the hostages! Position the hostages yourself so they have to really search for them.
    • Move them to different areas of your base, so they know they are not in the non-vent and vent default hostage rooms.
    • If they don't know where the hostages are, it takes them longer to rescue them.
  • Set up plans with your team before hand, if you try to set them up during the round that is taking place, you might find yourself alone and your teammates won't know where are.
    • Team play is very important, read more about it here.
  • Try not to leave your base, when you leave your base, it makes it easier for hostages to get rescued, and makes your whole team easier to kill.
  • In the beta 4 release of siege there is a ladder going half way up the elevator building on the terror's side, if your team is having trouble with CT snipers on the roof go threw the sewers, up to the second floor of the building and go out the window. Climb up the ladder and go behind the utility panel, if you're quiet enough you should be able to get behind the sniper undetected. Then take his weapon and snipe the rest of the CT's down below.
  • Use the crates in the tunnel, stand behind then and shoot over, this way there is less of your body exposed, and you wont take as many hits.

II.) Offense

Work as a team, and stay together. Since this map has a lot of narrow areas, it makes it easy to kill off an enemy when you have four guns shooting at them at once. When you have enough team members, it's recommended that you split up into two groups, and split up in the beginning and meet in the garage.

  • Work together, either in one whole group, or 2-3 separate ones.
    • Never go into the base alone, there is a good chance you could get nailed by 5 machine guns and just get killed, making your team low one man/woman.
    • If possible, use a lot of gun variation. For example, use the mp5, and when you are shooting an enemy and you run out of ammo for that clip, quickly switch to pistol and finish him off.
  • Expect the enemy to know where you are. Do not think you are hiding when you really aren't. Get to know the cameras so you know where the real hiding spots are.
  • If you are weakened, meaning you have below 65 life, tell your teammates and let them move in first, that way you can help your teammates by adding some extra bullets flying at the enemy, and you will not get killed as fast.
  • If the terrors are rushing climb up in the tower and snipe, but dont camp up there with a awp looking down the ladder.
  • There are a lot more crates in the tunnel to the garage now, well since beta 3 anyways. Use them to your advantage. If you can get to the first one, run from behind one crate to another until you're almost into the garage. most terrors wont even notice you because they're to busy watching the entrance, then jump out behind them and give 'em hell!

III.) Overall

Below are some techniques you should use if you happen to be the last one on your team alive, offensive or defensive, or if you are alone facing one or more enemies.

  • Trick the enemy, and do not allow them to trick you.
    • A very important tip: do not go in the direction your enemies' suspect you are going, always turn around and try to sneak up on them. Almost like hide and seek. Except you hide, then seek and kill!
      • A very important trick in siege. You know the little hut across from the elevator building? Use it to your advantage. You are running from an enemy, shooting back at them, run into the hut, and jump through the window. Most of the time, they think you are going to hide in there in the dark corner.
      • When running in the yard, run around one of the red or blue storage looking bins, and when the enemy can't see you (approximately halfway around the bin), turn around and go the other direction around it. 75% of the time they won't know you turned around, and you can luckily get a good head shot from behind when they are looking for you on the other side of the bin.
  • Conserve your ammo, and use the weapon variation technique.
    • Save your ammo, do not shoot it to get a teammates attention. Stop shooting at an enemy when you know you can't hit him. Those few bullets you wasted could have determined a win or lose for you. If you were fighting the last enemy, and you run out of ammo, you are pretty much dead, unless he has real bad aim.
    • Change weapons often, I know that this is said a lot, but switch between guns while shooting. Read the example in above sections if you haven't already.
    • Remember as of beta 4 the elevator door can only be opened from the inside, Terrors  go threw the sewers and CT's up the elevator.
    • Also in beta 4 you hostage rescue point is at the entrance to the tunnel (the CT's side)The big orange + on the ground. So dont run all the way back to your base with the hostages.

IV.) Sniping

It's pretty self explanatory: Sniping.

  • Sniping Overall:
On this well created map you will find that there are various types of game-play areas, some of which a sniper should and shouldn't venture.
    • Keep away from closed in hallways and easily surrounded areas. Because once they get close to you, you are pretty much screwed.
    • The best sniping spots are usually on or close to the same level as your target. Meaning that you don't have to move the gun up and down to hit your target.
    • Try to always duck when taking a shot. It will improve your accuracy and make it harder for the target to see you.
    • Don't waste ammo, you will only run out of it, have to reload, and give away your position. None of which are good things.
    • Keep in small easily protected areas where you can see everything that is going on, if something doesn't feel right pull out of there and snipe somewhere else. Such areas like the buildings between bases can lead to trouble.
    • Oh and one last note: don't go charging into the garage, it's a bad idea.
  • CT base & Mine:
Sniping around the Counter-Terrorist base, this can be an easily defended area and is where I feel the strongest while sniping no matter what team I am on.
    • Once at the base stay out of sight. Such places like the boulder, the ledge that lamppost is on (bridge), corner by the tower, large ledge left of the bridge and the ramp to the mine.
    • Make sure you get the first shot off, (hopefully only) but don't go crazy. When you see somebody look around the corner, line up your shot then let it go. If the target hears a shot go off he is going to go crazy and start jumping all over the places making it harder for you to kill him and increasing the risk of him seeing you and killing you.
    • Keep your sight on the main entrance to the CT base, every once and awhile look over to the mine ramp and tower to be safe.
    • If in trouble use the slanted rock in the corner of the canyon. If done right, you can slide down it with no health lost.
    • Try to stay out of the tower. Although the view is great it's usually the first spot that an incoming target will look at.
    • Use things to hide you, like the bush on the large ledge left of bridge. Things like these will make the incoming target have to zoom in or squint to find you giving you enough time to pick him off.
    • You can use any spot you want to snipe but remember spots on low elevation, in easily defended areas and keep you out of the targets direct line of sight (make him squint at the screen a bit) are best. Here is a bunch that have been found to work well.
      • Between CT & T base:
This seems to be a very balanced area as both teams rush to meet in the middle trying to secure this waypoint. It can turn out to be a great place to rack up some quick frags, or can quickly ruin your day. It is usually fought over till the end with assaults through the sewer, or garage, etc.
        • Make sure you don't charge into the center without backup. (About 1 or 2 guys with mp5's or any other automatic weapons.)
        • The best pace to go at the start is the entrance to the CT or T base from there you can duck down and pick off any targets as they enter the area.
        • If caught in a position when you are being attacked and you have no support or to little, try to make it to the roof of the building and jump off onto the crate. If done correctly they should have followed you into the building. You can now get into a good sniping position and get them as they come out or even while they are in the building.
        • Use dark area sniping places where you will blend into the surrounding. Inside the building are good but can easily be overthrown if you have no backup.
        • Use flashbangs. Go into the building, chuck a flashbang through the window, duck then get up and pick off the confused targets.
        • If needed get a person to stand on top of. He can be used as backup and can allow you to get a higher view. Use this in places like behind the small shack. Stand there and you can snipe through the shack.
        • Get an awp, or some type of high powered gun and run up to the second level room in the middle building. Position yourself so your back is facing the terrorist base entrance, and so you are looking through the window (the one closest to the orange box) facing the canyon to the ct base entrance. While the Cts file into the center of the map, hugging the far walls, you will have a nice time sniping them off with minimual chance of getting hit. - Thanks Wampey
        • Go in middle of map to the little trailer. Look out the window that is on the right side of the door as you enter the room (there should be some small wooden boxes that you should see). If you position yourself right, you should be able to look out the window and see the whole part of the canyon that the cts have to go through to get into the middle(discluding the elavotor). - Thanks Wampey
        • If you are having some fierce battles centering around the elevator, jump down on top of the elevator.(Don't do this in beta 4, Use the ladder) When it is at the bottom, use the little crack that is between the top of the elevator and the lower part of the rock wall. Not a lot of view there, but if you do it right, you should be able to see them and shoot them. - Thanks Wampey
  • Terrorist Base & Sewers:
This can be one of the worst places for a sniper, filled with narrow hallways and mucky sewers. It is best to get away from this area if at all possible.
    • Use obstacles like the SUV, garbage bin, hostages, etc, to block stray bullets from hitting you.
    • Try not to stay in corridors as you can easily miss the target, and have slow reload time unless using the G3/GS1.
    • Use hostages to your advantage. Get all the hostages into the hostage room with no vent and sit behind the glass. Place the hostages in front of you to make it harder for targets to hit you.

Additions!

  Counter-Terrorists

Canyon siege is a map full of advantages for both teams. On the CT side there is many objects shielding them from Terrorist snipers in the garage. The building or "house", the red box, the side little building, and the blue box. You also have the canyon wall. Anyhow, when CT's assault always try to take a peak to see if there are any T snipers and run to the red box... then go to the side so you meet the garage entrance to the right. See the pic. Alternatively you could go left behind the house where the dumpster is. Jump onto the dumpster edge, then jump onto the house ledge. Be sure to use your knife when jumping the knife is the lightest in weight so you can jump higher. This allows you to avoid using the elevator or the sewers to get to the house. Also, on the corner of the ledge you can fire when crouching onto terrorists in the garage. In the garage part of the map you can use many boxes to take cover from terrorist fire.

Terrorists

Terrorists are pretty cool in this map too. They have the nice parking garage with a lot of cover but it has a slight disadvantage, the open space in the middle. This garage can be very well defended by having gunners and snipers. Snipers should go behind the group of boxes and the car. Gunners should stay behind those boxes and at corners of this map. If your group is rushing you should rush out and go behind the blue box and then straight and turn left at red box. Or you can go into the little building on the side for snipers. If CTs are already here then fall back into the garage behind the boxes. A good spot to hide behind is that tall stack of boxes to the side. Until a CT comes you can fire upon him. (see pic). Another route would be to go into the sewers and run through till you get to the house. At the house you can fire at counter-terrorists with much cover. But, if you hear a elevator sound be sure to come back down and check. When assaulting the CT base if you see one sniper try rushing him, by taking out your knives (so you run fast) jump and strafe to dodge his shots esp. if g3sg1 then take out your weapon and go to the tower. He probably is waiting there so side strafe left and right till you get him. If there are multiple snipers behind the rocks, boxes, and tower then go around to elevator or get another sniper. When at the CT base check behind that big rock and those stack of boxes. Also, just before the bridge check to your left and right.
