So what did a community that revolves around Counter-Strike think of Half-Life 2? The result is similar to a car wreck: it's horrible and gruesome but you just can't look away. Lets drive by again, shall we?
from: FL!PP.S. rizzuh died and the mailbags I do will never be funny.
If my machine would run it, I'd be skipping school and meals and setting up a toilet as a seat.
..But it won't. I'm gonna have to stick with CZ and the idea that the HL2 engine will bring some pretty feisty mods into the scene. I mean, who knows? Another instant classic like DoD or TFC is bound to pop up with some eye candy. DoD: Source is gonna blow my mind as is.
P.S. Flame me, plz, it's been awhile since a mailbag has cracked me up. <3
Sorry.
from: orphyWell, as long as we're keeping things simple: If the trunk of my car was stuffed with a metaphorical naked eight year old boy, the bleeding wounds all over his head would be how much I appreciate you.
Let's keep this simple: if Half Life 2 had a metaphorical hole, I'd have sex with it.
from: azz0rHEY GUYS!!!
Probably the best game ever, however I cant help but feel like I was playing a story less shadow of what I saw in the leak.
The leaks a big no-no subject, but after testing the weapons and various enemies it seems to me that more were cut - not due to development choices - but due to time constraints.
It's cool thought really, it will allow Valve to release an add-on to recoup even more money to pour into new projects.
Go Valve! :D
HEY!!!!
I PLAYED THE LEAK!! LOOK I SAID IN THE MAILBAG THAT I PLAYED THE LEAK!!!
WHO WANTS TO TOUCH ME?!?!
from: vamiciouskanidI hear Nova Scotia is nice this time of year.
I have had it for 2 weeks almost and IM STILL PLAYING IT!!! I don't want to finish the game!!! I'm taking my sweet time and savoring every moment of it like a fine wine ... Yeah ... I'm still inside Nova Scotia =)
However, this is the same way I "experienced" HL2. While many people I know rushed through it nonstop, I played it over the process of a week and liked savoring it.
from: BobafettYour vision of the community is far too utopian. Rather than a bunch of mods with engrossing storylines and fascinating characters, we're going to get SUPERMOD V2.0 with the rocket launcher that shoots aborted fetuses and a map with Gordon sucking off the G-Man for crowbars.
Half-Life 2 was a game worth playing. I even liked the end although I know many others disagree. This is the typical type of ending left in the Half-Life genre and to be honest, it leaves the mod community with infinite ideas for mods and expansions to the game.
If Half-Life 2 had all of the questions answered directly in the game, would you want to play it again after you finished? The lack of answers lead you back to the game, and invite the player to explore at their leisure.
As for the source engine... all I have to say is wow! It runs great on both my laptop and desktop. It's playable on older machines for those who aren't looking for the latest and greatest gear. It's features also leave mod makers drooling!
There are going to be some excellent games coming out (for free might I add) that would never have been possible if it weren't for Half-Life 2. It allows the community to dream up of amazing stories, characters, and worlds... and simply helps the gaming community grow.
Counter-Strike Source looks and feels more real when you play it. Instead of moving a character, you are the character. And instead of sitting in front of your computer, you begin to think you're actually in the world.
I simply can't wait to see what the future brings!
CS:S reminds me a lot of fixing up the way a car looks, so it looks like it's straight out of Back To The Future, but not touching the engine. That way, it looks like you're the coolest guy in the high-school parking lot, but driving your "ride" is like driving an elephant on roller skates.
CS:S feels exactly the same, except some maps seem to have changed gameplay wise, but with fancy physics and redone maps. It was a complete waste of time in my opinion, but the rabid community needed some new meat.
from: Evil_PenguinThat nude patch made my lonely nights so much brighter.
Asking what will happen to the mod scene now that HL2 is released is the equivalent of asking what would happen to the music scene if every human gained some sort of advance evolutionary trait that allowed them to hear sound at twice the level we currently can listen to the hottest new Averil Lavigne tracks, which is to say the the modding scene will be doubled into some sort of monster that will mod everything hours after it comes out, and then those modded items will be modded into mods that are twice the file size but half the fun but still downloaded because it is a complete revamp of HLv2.5: ~-gMAN sKILLz-~® which introduces some of the best work we have seen from ILLSKILLZ6969 since the infamous Lamarr Nude Patch, and well, it's safe to say we all remember what that was like.
Thank you ILLSKILLZ6969... wherever you are.
from: GpigThere has never been a clear-cut best game in an entire year ever. For every jerk who thinks Half-Life 2 is awesome there's another jerk who thinks Doom 3 is so good that Jesus is going to come back to play it.
There has never been a clear cut best game until Half-Life 2 came out. I didn't even finish the original Half-Life because I don't find running through sewers the most exciting thing in the world on the Quake engine.
Counter-Strike:Source still has some parts that aren't fully thought through such as not being able to shoot through all walls and other parts that are completely missing such as VAC, but I know quite a few people who are new to Counter-Strike playing CS:S and liking it after they finished HL2. So the flaws don't seem to be hurting it at this point as people who can't look past the them just play 1.6.
Half-Life 2 can't possibly be the best game because while using the vehicles you cannot see hands on the handlebars, and clearly that ruined the experience while playing it in my darkened basement covered in pizza grease.
from: mode2The replay value of the original Half-Life was awful too. Every time I got an itch to replay Half-Life I'd get pissed off while going through the boring ass beginning that loses its astounding coolness after you finish the game for the first time. PUSH THE SAMPLE IN GORDON!
I enjoyed it, impresive graphics and very cool long levels to explore. Once i finished it there was no real replay value so that was a downer unless you like cs:s there's not much else. But it was worth buying just for the HL2 experience. Maybe modders will keep hl2 new and fresh...
I can safely say that I spent at least an hour in the Half-Life 2 train station throwing bottles and cans at people and giggling my ass off when I played it for the first time. However, now I skip though the first chapter or two because they are just establishing the story you already know.
This is nothing new.
from: YodaThis is so unexpected because when the mailbag opens I always expect intelligent responses with insight and depth.
I love you
You guys never fail to crack me up.
from: cheesewillyI read this at least 15 times, and rather than deleting it, I want you guys to try and figure out what the hell this unsuccessful abortion is trying to say to me.
I think HL2 is a great game that deserves all the credit it is getting. Some say that the conclusion is not all that great but I liked it. The game was well written and was a pleasure to play. There are fantastic graphics, amazing ambience and it is just a solid, solid game to say the least.
Now, pretty much everyone who has played HL and/ or HL2 is addicted to CS. So, when everyone finally gets the bronze/ silver/ gold/ retail packages to play HL2, they are obviously going to play CS: Source. What this means is that CS V1.6 is barely going to have any people playing on their servers by I would say in...a year. Soon all of the CS "movies" are going to be based on CS: Source and I will be happy.
W47CH U|2 6!
Go for it.
from: Billy JoelI prefer checkers.
I prefer Pacman.
CSN has been my source for checkers strategies in the past. It's great.
