Counter-Strike 1.6 has been out long enough for people to start to form more serious opinions on the improvements or lack there of to the latest installment in the Counter-Strike family. Let's see what they had to say.
from: Delta2
Its utterly pointless, we don't need two new guns, that suck, and a big black rectangle that stops bullets. 1.5 was CS perfection, they mucked it up. If it an't broke don't fix it. Don't even get me started on Steam.
"If it aint broke don't fix it" is a motto I have always gone by since I started playing Counter-Strike some three and a half years ago. Apparently I like to set myself up for disappointment.

I condemn Valve for using the retail version of the gun names. Who the hell calls an aug a "bullpup"?
If you use buy scripts you'll never even notice the fake gun names. I personally recommend RzE's CS Helper (http://csnation.totalgamingnetwork.com/rze/): quick access to your IDF Defender or Nighthawk.

I've been beta testing 1.6 ever since the beta came out, so it's nothing entirely new to me. In fact, for the majority of the time it was out, I played it more often than 1.5. I think the shield is a great addition to the game, but it's a pain in the ass when the entire CT team is using the. I feel that they need to add something to balance it out. Or I could shut up and just run around the shield users and shoot them in the back. Good plan!
You were always one to brag, orphy. Playing since the beta came out, ha! You don't see me telling everyone about my incredibly low SteamID (15) now do you?

I don't have 1.6 myself, but I did play it a lot at a friend's house. Riot shield was funny as hell at first, but got pretty damn annoying after a while. At least the nades do a little more damage. As for the new guns, I didn't care for them much, but I found a few people kicking serious ass with them. More guns is always a good thing. If it wasnt for Steam, 1.6 would be the best CS version yet.
The nades do a lot more damage, so much so that they crash the server.

it seems like im one of the few that actually like it the new glock can actually kill some one (i think it shoots bullets now not peas!!!!) i like the shield it can be used good in some situations and the famas own so dose the galil one thing i dislike are the changes to the ak.
The glock definitely needed an upgrade. In 1.5 the burst mode could be mastered by a skilled player with good reaction and aim, but now it stands more of a chance in single-shot mode, which is good for people who take 20 rounds to hit their opponent.

And as for my opinion on the shield; it's fun at first but gets annoying quickly when you constantly have to deal with hordes of shielders. Hopefully people are just getting use to it and trying it out and will opt for a rifle in the future. Probably not.

I would tell you if I had time to learn how to use the new and improved file dispersing method.
As expected we got a lot of Steam submissions. I think almost all of the slug-ness and crashes caused by the program are due to the overloaded state of the Steam network. The client itself just doesn't know what to do when it talks to Steam and gets no response. VALVe has a history of underestimating their user-base and its demands, and this is the result.

hey what happened to the models? the hands are white, i mean not like peach white but paper white man i thought they were gonna fix that but apparently not
That's what happens when the only one around to model is rizzuh. Aha zing! Ok that was terrible.

To put it simply, it brings about many changes that require a slight amount of adaptation, the largest of these changes being the riot shield.

Due to its introduction, people seem to be complaining that it is "stupid", "gay" or something along those lines.

The riot shield, if anything, incorporates more strategy to the game in terms of having to revamp all existing map strategies in order to take the use of the shield into consideration.

In 3 months time, everyone will probably just be adapted to it and accept it as an integral part of the game, but this does not prevent people from asking this simple question: Did the game require more strategy or was it better off before? I'll leave that to the llama's.
Yeah three months seems to be a good figure, although I would go as far to say only one month. I think that a lot of people's opinions aren't going to change, however, until they can actually get into the game, but we'll leave that for another mailbag!

I somehow doubt that the riot shield will add any strategy to public pay though. Something always comes up that is suppose to "encourage teamplay" or something along those lines, but we still see a discombobulated mass of people running about going for frags. That's the way it is and we like it. It is, after all, a public server.

Siege sucks.

the new updates brings cs out of what made is seem so...win95 and makes it seem more winxp. the famas gives the cts a chance to match the ts second round ak buying...the galil also allows people who arent able to sue the ak effectively to have a second choice. the big controversy is over the shield...personally i like the shield and although it is unfair at times you need to learn to fight around it besides it might motivate some of those people who just play as ts all the time actually join the cts for once...also..the new knife is good so is the new glock...and..the font pwns joo all...all in all i like the new updates a ton :D
I got a chance to scrim 1.6 some more the other day, and the shield isn't very intimidating at all in matches. Its main nuisance is in public servers, especially with the exploit. I think once that's cleared up, and its price is changed to $16000, its appeal will start to drop.

I think that 1.6 will show my CAL team that i'm a true winner by having a postive ratio on the scoreboard. How you might ask? I will just whore the C4 and plant it round after round racking up the points. I'm a true winner, always goin' for frags!
So that is what it's going to take to get your miserable self halfway up the scoreboard, your clan ought to be proud! Just what CAL team might you be a part of? Sounds like a gaggle of idiots. (practice at 7 tonight by the way)

I think they will have a significant impact on the game and how it's played. I don't think you'll see much of a change in the CPL however; the riot shield won't do much in terms of strategy (at least for the top teams) but I do like the weapons choices and the fact that the glock is no longer a pea shooter.
I wouldn't discount the riot shield in CPL level matches just yet. It's brand new so we don't really know what it's capable of, and although the price was raised a bit, it might still prove useful in those last round situations when you can't afford a rifle. While it's not nearly as effective as you would think based on seeing it in action in public servers, I would keep my eyes open for some top notch strategies derived for the shield.

Well, the few times I have been able to log into Steam, it has been pretty damn fun. The graphics rock my socks but the game play has dramaticly changed, everything seems a hell whole of a lot larger. So large in fact it scares me. It scares me so. Help me Riz, for I need an adult.
Aside from the touch ups to the gun models and the updated maps, the look and feel of the game seems to be the same as 1.5. But if you can confuse Mike "crappy mailbags" J to rizzuh then I can see how you might get that idea.

TO HELL WITH THE GLITHCES (its temporary anyways)

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!
This is a unique approach you're taking. You probably aren't familiar with how everything works in the world of Counter-Strike so I'm going to make it easy on you and point you in the direction of this petition (http://www.petitiononline.com/nosteam/petition.html).

I honestly believe 1.6 has everything but more, and I've had way, way more fun with it—I think it just takes some getting used to. Maybe those 1.5 freaks should just give it a good, long try. I had so much damn fun with it.. It's just too bad I can't connect to any 1.6 servers through Steam because it's all weird and stuff. =( So far steam has been good, but, whatever. I think the riot shield is balanced now, and I just find the overall feel of the game is good; The Famas' three round burst works well if you learn to use it right, and it's a neat gun to buy if an mp5 ain't enough bang for your buck. And the Galil, well. It r0x0rz. If Steam patches things up, I support 1.6 all the way, damnit.
You really did hit the nail on the head here. It's hard to look past the shaky release and countless steam bugs to see the vast amount of improvements and touchups added to the game, but I think when everything is worked out people are going to accept this release better than say, 1.3 -> 1.4. You can quote me on that! Also the Famas three-round-burst is excellent in the right situations, and the sound it makes is just cool!

I think it's great, counter-stirke has been long overdue for a remake, everything is easier to navigate no more rembering typing codes into console. It's a great advance for counter-strike~
The console changes are another thing I think people overlook. It's really nice to see a little pop up menu of commands as well as the auto complete. I just wish they didn't take out the bots. I assume those were in for testing and will be included in CS:CZ.

I've been with good old cstrike since the old times of 1999, but i kind of lost interest within the last few years and have only been messing with it spontaneously every now and then. I just tried 1.6 not too long ago, and I can say that it kind of brings back the memories of accuracy with the guns you could experience back in the old betas, but not by a whole lot. and I wish valve could've implemented a spell checker too for all the people who can't type correctly without ever making a typo in any sentence for some reason. j/k
I'm glad you're just kidding about that. I was worried you were serius for a second.

I pretty much like everything that has been added to 1.6 especially the +3 to score for a successful plant and a successful defuse. It promotes team play, which I'm seeing a lot of in 1.6. The only thing I don't like is the shield, although the shield is a great idea it affects game play to much in my opinion. Sometimes shield users come right up to me and start jumping in front of me as if they're playing me for a fool! As I sit there and wait for them to whip out there pistol. And even sometimes type stuff to me... and have a bit of a joke around. And it seems kinda unrealistic that someone can hold a shield while being pelted by a full round of AK-47?
Although the +3 frag thing was a big controversy in the community when it was first announced, I honestly don't think it has changed much. Just a few more defuse attempts. Maybe people have forgotten that it's there, but I don't see anymore teamwork or plantings on public servers. And when the bomb is planted it's still the same old "let's run away from it and chase down the remaining CTs" game.

I think we can definately agree that the best thing about the new release of Steam is the ability to play Chess with your friends. It's about time those people at Valve made a chess game, because I would much rather do that than go shoot some brains out on counter strike! Why shoot brains when we can use them? Good job valve! This chess game will surely revolutionize the Steam releases from here on, especially since you can't play Chess while playing CS. The chess game will just be so popular, no one will play CS anymore!
