Today began the single elimination portion of the tournament. I woke up at about 6 am and couldn't fall back asleep amazingly, considering how tired I was last night, so I've been running off maybe 3 hours of sleep all day. I feel a bit more sluggish but I'll luckily get to rest after taking care of this stuff.
Eventually around 11 or so some of the pigtail matches started, and I managed to grab an interview with the winners of the very first matc of the CPL tourney, team TDG.
Interview with TDG, winners of the first match played at the CPL via forfeit win over Web.
CS-Nation: Tell me what was going through your head during this match.
Striker: Well I was thinking man, I've gotta get my settings correct, and I did that for pretty much the whole match, and I shot my teammates a lot, but we pulled through and won, so yeah it was good.CS-Nation: It was a clean sweep 13-0, and I guess it was close in some aspects, but you pulled through over team Web. Obviously it was a forfeit win, but it's got to be nice to know you only have one more match to win before you're in the double elimination.
Striker: Yes, it is kind of nice, but obviously we came to play.CS-Nation: So what leagues are you a part of?
Striker: We just finished CAL-o with a record of 5-3, just short of one more game to make cal-im.CS-Nation: Well now you guys have CPL experience, so I'm sure they'll throw you a bone and just move you to intermediate. Thanks for the interview, and best of luck with your next single elim match.
Immediatly following I ran into top german team Alternate Attax and managed to get a solid interview with them as well.
Interview with alternate attax, top german clan, chucky, moon, final, basti, toadie.
CS-Nation: In Germany, what leagues do you compete in?
Manager: We compete in the EPS, that's the king's league of the ESL, the European Sports League, and last year was our first season in it and we finished third place.CS-Nation: What are your past accomplishments?
Manager: This is our first international tournament, we compete both online and lan but we try to concentrate on lan, we started out with activation lan last year with close to 1500 players at it and we placed first, and then we went to the wwcl and placed first at that lan event, and if you compete in lots of lans you get seeded for it so we won that. We won five PC's at wwcl, and at the GigaLiga (?) lan in Germany we won 5 PC's and 2000 euros.CS-Nation: You're here representing at the CPL and I expect you will do well; are there plans to try to represent Germany for the upcoming World Cyber Games?
Manager: Yes, our win at the wwcl event we are qualified for the WCG Qualifier.CS-Nation: What are the past teams your players have been on?
Manager: Some of them are from TAMM, considered to be maybe one of the only old school German cs clans, they basically started the whole cs scene in Germany. Basti and toadie came from a-losers.msi and chucky played in eSu.CS-Nation: How did you prepare for the CPL?
Manager: We bootcamped with mousesports once, and we also bootcamped once in an internet cafe close to Frankfurt, and we played against 20 internet teams or so.CS-Nation: Who do you think will make a big splash, who will be underdogs, and are there any teams you're kind of worried about?
Chucky: We don't know many US clans, but I think Titans will take it all or SK.CS-Nation: Any final thoughts?
Manager: Yes, we've had lots of fun in Texas, and we think the tournament will be lots of fun, and we'd like to thank gigabyte, nvidia, amd, plantronics, and our main sponsor in Germany, alternate, a mail-order company.CS-Nation: Best of luck to you.
